Evening Walk

We needed to get out of the house. So Ava and Jack jumped in her princess mobile, Owen grabbed his skateboard and Devin and I drug Ethan and all his preteen attitude out the door. (That yellow on Jacks face is a bruise. He got hit in that same spot twice in 2 days. The first with his own fist the next with Ethan's bed.)
Jack jumped out half way there so Ava got a chance to drive in the real world. I got a glimpse of her at 16.

This picture cracks me up. He looks like he wants to kill me. awww we are full steam ahead towards teenage years. sigh
And then we reached our goal . Starbucks, where we all enjoyed our steaming hot cups of coffee........just kidding. We got hot chocolate and carmel apple cider. Ava went with chocolate milk. It was a nice walk and i actually got Ethan to smile.

I am so behind in blogging, frankly, I am overwhelmed. Every time I sit down to blog I struggle with where to start. Do I keep up my number count? Do I start over? I have pictures, but i've lost my blogging umph. huh so I here I go, starting over. No more numbers, just blogging. Maybe next year i'll try again. We'll see. So what can I say???? Ava and Devin had their birthday on April 2nd. Since Ava loves to dip everything she eats, we had a dip party. I made spinach artichoke dip, orange fluffy dip, carmel apple dip, roasted red pepper dip ( that was by far everyones favorite) dill dip and some sweet and sour meatballs just for the fun of it. We also had a jump house and a cupcake decorating station. Believe it or not Ava had fun. Gasp! I know. She is so hard to please and she hates being the center of attention, but she actually enjoyed her party. She thanked everyone as she was tearing into her gifts, she was polite and had fun. Devin behave himself to, but he usually does, usually.

So some fun facts about 3 year old Ava
* she's not potty trained. Go ahead and judge. She's the baby and i've already proved my potty training skills with the last three so who cares right?
* She is so girly. She loves everything princess. She has so many cute clothes, but she only wears princess dresses.
*she loves being a girl.
* She loves pink and purple anything.
*She can count really high. I didn't teach her that because I want her to be a baby
*She knows the name of every princess and who there prince is and what movie they are in. I did teach her that
* She loves Dora the Explorer (yuck)
*She knows all her colors
*She is sooo good on a razor scooter. She flies through the house.
*She is a caregiver. Whenever anyone is hurt she is the first one there with a bandaid or icepack or their favorite blanket.
*She loves coming with me to volunteer at Jack's kindergarten class. I really think she thinks she's older than the kindergartners.
I can go on and on. She is so sweet and I feel so blessed everday to have her.

Desi got us free tickets to The Harlem Globetrotters. Not only were they free, but they were awesome seats! We were only 12 rows up from the floor. I have never seen my kids laugh so hard! These guys are really hilarious! Thank You Aunt Desi!
Ava continually amazes us with her femininity. She insisted on bringing a purse with a lip gloss and "camera" ( a toy that looks like a camera) She would take her camera out, take a picture, look at the picture and then put it back in her purse. The take out her lip gloss and apply and then put it back, she clapped and cheered and booed. It was like hanging out with a 30 year old. The boys loved being there and although Ethan tried to keep a cool, straight face he ended up cracking up the whole time. It was a great night.

I had the pleasure of joining Owen's class on their field trip the Long Beach Aquarium. It was a beautiful day and quite an adventure. My dear friend Shanon drove us and 6 kids. We may or may not have passed up our exit and ended up in Compton, but we did end up making it there safely. Anyone who know me knows that I am not a big fan of birds, no one sent the memo to the birds in Long Beach. While there I was pooped on, sat in poop, while pointing I touched a pigeon mid flight, and in the lorakeet exhibit I was the only one a bird landed on and I didn't even have food. Other then those horrifying events, I must say it was a blast. I don't get to hang out with just Owen very often so it was good bonding time.

Devin and the kids had Monday off from work and school so we took off Saturday night and escaped to my Grandma and Grandpa's house in Pahrump Nevada. It was so much fun and so relaxing. There is nothing like escaping from the world and being taken care of by your grandma. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa for having us. I hope you and your house will recover from our craziness!!!

Devin's parents gave us passes to Knott's Berry Farm for Christmas. We finally went and it was great. It was so great my cheeks hurt from smiling. Sassy has never really liked any of the rides at Disneyland. She shakes the whole time we are in line and whimpers through the whole ride, every ride. It doesn't matter that she has the ride memorized, she was still terrified. So I didn't have high hopes for knotts. So imagine my surprise when she screamed and laughed on every ride she went on. The rides in Camp Snoopy are great because they are mostly for kids only. So Devin and I got to sit back and watch the kids have fun. And the park was soooo empty they got to ride every ride as many times as they wanted. I almost had a heart attack when Devin put all the kids (including Sass) on the small roller coaster. I mean seriously I couldn't feel my left arm I was so freaked out. But they loved it and I eventually got my blood pressure down to a normal level and got the feeling back in my arm! So all in all we had a blast and can't wait to go back.

We went to a birthday party for a friend of Owen's tonight at Chuck E. Cheese's. It was so fun. Ava ran smack into a table while we were there and got a big blue goose egg on her head. I tried to take a picture of it, but you can't see it. I guess it's fading quick and will be gone by tomorrow.

Ethan had his annual eye doctor appointment. The good news is that his eyes aren't getting any worse. The bad news is that he needs new glasses. I haven't bought him a new pair since 2008. Can we say responsible kid for not breaking them??? They are pretty scratched up and getting a little to snug. So I shelled out the $300 for a new pair. Ouch. But hopefully these will last 3 years to. I'm always so sad watching him take the eye test. His left eye is so bad. He can only see three lines down :( I shouldn't be that surprised though since almost everyone on my side and Devin's side wear glasses. So far Owen and Jack both have 20/20 vision. Ethan is hoping Ava needs glasses so he's not alone.

Los Angeles Zoo

We bought passes to the zoo in the summer time so on New Years day we were bored and decided to finally use the passes again, but this time we were smart and bought all day tram tickets. Only $14 for all of us and it was worth it!
It was freezing cold that day so don't let the sun fool you. I have never been cold at the zoo, it's usually miserably hot. It's so much better when it's cold. All the animals were up and moving.
We always get stuck at the gorilla exhibit. They are fascinating to watch.

Ava got a doll house, but she was so afraid of Santa that she wouldn't get out of bed. She told us to give all her presents to Owen. It took a lot of convincing and Daddy to carry her to the living room before she started to get excited. Then every time we came home that day she was afraid to go into the house because she just knew Santa would be in there. Poor thing!

I got this box delivered to me today. I knew one was coming to Whitney, but I didn't know that I was getting one to. To tell the truth, i've been kind of jealous. Hoping that Whitney would share her treasure when they got here. The box is so cute, but what it's filled with was amazing!
A dozen cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake in Washington D.C.! Shay sent us the most amazing, thoughtful gift ever!!!! I mean who doesn't LOVE cupcakes?

Christmas Train

Every year the Christmas train pulls into different train stations. This year was our first year to see it. Unfortunately it was also the first year there wasn't a performance. It was really decorated and Santa and Mrs. Clause were there. There was also "snow". It was a fun night, but a little to crowded for my taste.

School Christmas Program

I LOVE the Christmas program at the boys school. They have an amazing music teacher and she always picks the best songs. The only problem is, it's always to dark to take any pictures. I tried to get a few at the dress rehearsal that morning, but my camera is not great for distant shots. Jack was so excited to be in the program this year and he did a great job. The big boys get kind of nervous because there are sooo many people there, but they always do great. My sister and I figured out that we will have kids in at least the next 9 years of this program. Good thing it's good!

Bailey's 7th Birthday

Seven years ago today I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl. I had two little boys at home and now suddenly I had a daughter. I remember Devin saying that night that he felt like a real dad now because he had both boys and a girl. I remember holding her and even though the after pains were intense, I was so in love with her. I didn't know then that I would only have her for 7 months and 18 days. I didn't know that I would be a bereaved parent. I didn't even know what a bereaved parent was. But what I did know, was that Bailey was special.

There was something different about her and I even felt that when I was pregnant with her. I brushed it off as maybe I was just so happy to have a girl, but somewhere in my soul I knew, I felt it.

Losing her was so painful, so, so very painful.Yet I felt like I had prepared for it, like Bailey and I knew that we would only be together on this earth for a short time, but we would be together in heaven forever. But how, as an imperfect, selfish human, can you say goodbye to your child? How do you let go and have perfect faith that this is part of Heavenly Father's plan? People ask me all the time how I survived losing her. They tell me that they would have died or gone crazy. Do they love their child more then I loved her? No, they just haven't had to go through it and they probably never will. It's not their test on this earth, it's mine, and Devin's and everyone else that loved her.

I remember my friend telling me that she struggled with her testimony after Bailey died. Why did I have to lose her when there are so many bad people in this world that have baby after neglected baby. Why did I have to say goodbye when I loved her and cared for her with all my soul? I don't have any answers other then I know Heavenly Father loves me and I know that Bailey was sent to me for a reason. She is the reason that Devin got baptized, she is the reason that we were sealed in the temple. She is the reason that my family will be together FOREVER.

The night she died was so surreal, I felt like a zombie walking around in someone else's body. But at the very depths of my pain I would feel comforted in a way that I cannot describe.At moments I felt so close to heaven. I felt angels all around us and a calm and peace that I needed. And for weeks after that night, people would come over and tell me that they felt different at my house. They felt a peace that they had never felt before. I know we were and are watched over. Our Heavenly Father is not cruel, he didn't do this to me, I wasn't punished. I know it must hurt him to see us hurt.And as much as it hurts and even if I knew from the begining it would end the way it did I wouldn't trade those 7 month and 18 days for anything in the world.

Even with all that happened there are alot of things I am thankful for. I'm so thankful that she died peacefully in her sleep. I'm thankful that she never had to suffer. I'm thankful that she never had to be sick, or hurt. I'm thankful that I know where she is and I never have to worry about her. And I am so thankful that I had those two little chubby baby boys to come home to and to smother with love. And of course I'm so thankful for the two i've had since then, as challenging as they are, they are here and that's all that matters.

Dance-a-thon

Ethan and his friends at the begining of the schools dance a thon. They are getting to that embarrassed stage, so they didn't ever really dance. They ran from the schools mascot and jumped a little bit, and that was it.

And then there was Owen. He not only danced the whole time, he break danced. It was awesome. He even did a couple of handstands. I love how outgoing and sure of himself he is.

Potlatch

At the boys school the kindergarten through second grade celebrate the Native American tradition of potlatch. They make friendship necklaces and trade them with other "tribes" (classes). They make butter and eat cornbread. Jack has been to every potlatch since he was 6 months old. This year it is finally his year to participate in the potlatch!

This boy comes home from school so hungry and grumpy it drives me crazy, but then he does something( like cuddle in his blankets) so cute that I forget how mad he made me!
And this kid walks around with her blanket or doll in her shirt telling me she's pregnant. Sometimes she tells me to be quiet because she's nursing her baby. This morning she asked me to babysit her dolls so she could go shopping. Then in her cutest mommy voice she promised both of her babies she would bring them back some toys. SO CUTE!

I went to Goodwill today because I needed an extra chair and a project to keep my busy today. i saw this one and thought it would be cute with some new fabric. Imagine my surprise when I turned it over to take it apart and found a Crate and Barrel tag on it. I got this chair for $5.99 and it was origianlly $174! So I went back and got the other one. I think they came out pretty cute.

We took the kids to the mall to get their Halloween pictures taken today after school. I know it's the day AFTER Halloween, but I really wanted to avoid the crowded chaos and it worked. We were the only ones there and they didn't have any appointments scheduled for another 4 hours! Ava is going through a really shy stage and she won't have anything to do with getting her picture taken, unless... she can ride a train? Hey it worked, I got a picture and had an awesome coupon so I spent less then $20 and got 10 copies. If you've ever been to the picture people you know what an awesome deal that is! I wish I could post all the pictures from the shoot because they are hillariously bad, but I can't copy them from the link so I had to take a picture of the pose i bought.
On anther note, I started Christmas shopping tonight by putting stuff on layaway at K mart. I've never done layaway or kmart before so we'll see how this goes. At least i've started shopping!

Bye Bye Halloween decorations

I took all my halloween decorations down today and put up my Thanksgiving decorations. i even made Thanksgiving valances for my kitchen. OOOOOhhh I LOVE NOVEMBER!!!

Today was the boys Halloween parade at school. These three were the cutest audience members

The girls were having a tough time listening, so I had to break out the double stroller. It helped

I absolutely love everything to do with Halloween especially the parade at school. They balst Halloween music and all the kids look so cute in their costumes. It's such a fun day!

Day 4

I realized that all the pictures i've been posting of Emma have been sleeping or waking up pictures, so this post will shake things up a bit. Last night we ordered some chinese food and carved pumpkins!!!
Everyone hates scooping up the guts, but me. I love putting my hands in the pumpkins and i love the way they smell. But they kids were good sports and did a good job scooping.
This was the first year that we let Ethan and Owen carve their own pumpkins and they did a great job.

Day 3

I woke up this morning curled up at the foot of my bed much like a cat. These three were resting comfortably at the head of my bed and Devin was sound asleep in Ava's room. I remember at one point during the night Owen waking up with a bad dream, but there was no room in my bed, so i slept on the edge of his bed until he was in a deep sleep. For some reason i'm not tired at all. I think I do better on little sleep.

Day 2 (morning)

The girls did so good last night. Emma woke up so happy at 6:30 which is perfect because I have to get up around then to get the boys ready for school. After we got Ethan and Owen off to school ( which was a chore because I had to lug around the double stroller!) we went to mocasalsa and got Emma's favorite breakfast burritos. Now it's time to get the girls dressed and then take Jack to school, the off to visit Nana. I figure the busier we are, the faster the time will go and the less time Emma will have to be sad.

Whitney and Kelly left on their crusie today. So that means that for the next 4 days I have two two year olds. YAY! Actually today wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be. They fought and threw fits, but not as much as they played and sang and laughed. Bedtime was a little hard, but when I went in to check on them this is how I found them. We'll see how the night goes. Wish me luck!

Ethan and his best friend Abbie created a comic book character namesd, Marshie. He's a marshmallow that is like a super hero. Last Sunday night Ethan made a couple of Marshie dolls that he took to school with him the next day to show his friends

So he took this bag with him to school today and came back with $1.75. He's selling them for a quarter a piece. Didn't Mickey Mouse start out htis way?

Fire station tour

The kids and I were out running errands and we passed the fire station and noticed they were having an open house. I, I mean, the kids were so excited. They got goody bags full of cool stuff, got a tour, and free cookies!!!
